A Quick Bible Lesson

The Bible is divided in two sections The Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testaments focus on the time before Jesus’s birth and the New Testament primary after his birth. In the times before Jesus God would punish the people for not following his will.

In Genesis Chapter 6 (KJV):

  • 5And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
  • 6And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
  • 7And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
  • 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

As punishment for their wickedness, God flooded the earth for 40 days and 40 nights.

This is just an example of God’s punishment in the Old Testament.

In the New Testament the focus was on Grace and Forgiveness.

Ephesians 2:8 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God

Jesus preferred to associate with the poor and down on the luck people. He was there to help them not look down on them and punish them.

Yet with in our current political climate many politicians chose to focus on the ways of the Old Testament of Hell Fire and punishment rather than the teachings of the New Testament of Grace and Forgiveness.

It is not the job of politicians or people for that matter to look down upon people and judge them. In Roman 12, he command that we love our brothers and help them, not punish them. When people speak out about punishing people that are different from then, then they are not following the teachings of Jesus.

It is not my business or yours if someone is gay or straight or transgender. Love them as a humans.

When a so-called, Evangelical Christian promotes discrimination against any person or group of people, then they are not following the teachings of Jesus.

We must learn to love and accept our fellow man. We don’t have to agree with every choice and decision they make but we can still love them and treat them with dignity.
